FAQs

Got a question about our turf supplies?

How quickly can my turf supplies be delivered?

As long as you order online before 4pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, we can deliver your turf supplies within two days. Online orders placed on Fridays will be delivered the following Tuesday – this schedule allows us to ensure that all our turf is freshly cut the day before delivery, which maintains its quality and performance. Telephone order deliveries may vary from this schedule, often being available more speedily. Please call 01255 830325 to speak to one of our friendly sales team.

If you are ordering your turf supplies by telephone, please speak to a member of our team about available delivery slots, as these may differ to the online order delivery schedule.

What size rolls does your turf come in?
Both our varieties – Pro Sports Turf and Premium Grade Turf – come in 1m² rolls (61cm x 164cm). Big rolls of 20m² (74cm x 2700cm), which are more suited to larger applications such as playing fields and sports pitches, are also available – although not through our online ordering system, so please call 01255 830325 to speak to a member of our team for larger turf supplies.

What size bags of soil and Border Bark do you offer?
Our different soil and Border Bark products both come in 0.73m³ bags (covering 7.3m² at a depth of 100mm).

Why are there no deliveries on certain days?
As we’re supplying the best quality turf, we want to ensure its perfect condition when it reaches you. We like to cut each order the day before it is delivered to make sure it reaches you fresh and ready to establish itself strongly and quickly, and this is only possible by implementing a delivery schedule such as the one we employ.

Why should I lay my turf on the same day it is delivered?
We always deliver freshly-cut turf in peak condition, so that it gets the very best start at forming a perfect lawn or pitch. If you delay the laying process, the turf could suffer from a lack of light and moisture, which will hamper its ability to establish quickly and provide a thick green sward.

Can you deliver my turf while I’m not there?
We can make a delivery in the customer’s absence, but we always ask for very detailed delivery instructions to make sure we leave the turf, soil or bark in the right place.

What’s the most economical way to order a lot of turf?
If you’re undertaking a project that requires 50m² of turf or more, then buying your turf supplies in pallets is a more economical option. Each pallet carries 50 standard 1m² rolls (61cm x 164cm) of turf. For very large projects, big rolls (74cm x 2700cm) might be more suitable. These can be ordered via our telephone ordering system, so please call 01255 830325 to speak to a member of our sales team.

I am a landscape contractor, can I use Paynes for all of my turf supplies?
Absolutely. We supply hundreds of landscape contractors – from sole traders to huge commercial outfits – with all of their turf supplies, including topsoil and border bark. We always deliver first thing in the morning to ensure you have a full day to lay the turf, and we’re happy to deliver small quantities to different locations (for example, when you’re working on housing development sites for home builders). Please call us to discuss your particular needs.

I’ve got a question about turf and lawn care – can you help?
Of course! Our lawn advice section covers all of the turf and lawn related questions that we get asked on a regular basis. If you still can’t find the answer to your question, contact us to speak to a member of the team.
