Is winter the best time of year to lay turf?Is winter really the best time of year to lay turf?

In general, autumn is normally the optimum time of year to lay turf. However, in some respects, winter can be ideal for laying turf as long as the ground isn’t frozen.

So, what are the advantages of laying turf in the winter?

  •  The turf has more time to establish. Although the turf will take longer to root in the winter, it’s less likely you will want to spend time in the garden and with less traffic on the newly laid turf it should establish well.
  • No watering required. The damp weather will keep your lawn moist and eliminate the need for watering, saving you time and money.
  • By summer you’ll have a luscious lawn. When the warm summer months come around, your newly laid lawn will be fully established and you will be able to spend time in the garden enjoying all your hard work.

Although winter isn’t really the optimum time of year to lay turf, it can be done and it does have its advantages!
