Renowned throughout the world for its outstanding and unique architecture, The Royal Pavilion in Brighton attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, each of whom flock to its magnificent grounds to attend events, picnic, and walk in the gardens. But heavy footfall, combined with the removal of an outdoor winter ice rink, meant that the landscaped areas recently required extensive renovation. Thanks to its exceptional high quality, lush green appearance, and proven durability, Paynes Turf’s Premium Grade Turf was chosen for the prestigious re-turfing project. The gardens now once again befittingly reflect the grandeur of its iconic centrepiece, and are fit for royalty and guest alike.Brighton Pavillion 2

Paynes’ turf was installed by Millstone Landscapes Ltd, a family-run business and winner of the 2015 Best Large Business Award for the West Sussex region. The landscaper was chosen to lead the renovation project in January 2015, after the winter ice rink, changing rooms, and entrance hall to the building were removed. Having used Paynes’ turf for over 14 years, Millstone Landscapes didn’t hesitate to contact Paynes Turf to grow, supply, and deliver the 3,172m2 of Premium Grade Turf required for the contract.

“We chose Paynes Turf because they supply a top range turf that’s as hardy as meadow turf, yet soft and superb to walk on. It’s a perfect thickness, easy to lay, and is ideal for installing in large open spaces, parks and gardens. We have used other turf companies in the past but it’s always ended up as wasted money, so now we only use Paynes Turf – they supply the best quality turf around, and at a really good price,” explained Jake Smith at Millstone Landscapes Ltd.

The installation went extremely well, with the exception of a very unusual problem in the form of local resident seagulls. Desperate for food over the winter, the hungry seagulls kept pulling up the corners of the newly laid turf in order to find worms to eat in the soil below. Millstone Landscapes Ltd quickly combatted the problem using a fake ’Hawk’ – a kite – to scare the birds away. The bird bluff worked a treat; the seagulls quickly left, and the damaged corners were repaired.

The entire project was completed in just two and a half weeks thanks to the excellent work of Millstone Landscapes, the extremely easy-to-lay turf, and Paynes’ fast delivery service. “Paynes’ delivery service is great. Because they have their own fleet of vehicles, Paynes Turf is able to provide really reliable delivery, which is always on time. In fact, out of all of the turf companies we’ve ever used, Paynes Turf offer the best delivery service by far,” Jake continued.

“Millstone Landscapes recommends Paynes Turf 100%. We tell everyone to go straight to Paynes Turf if they want high quality, value for money turf, and a delivery service that’s simply unrivalled. We’ve never had a client ring and complain about Paynes’ turf or say anything negative about it at all. In fact, we regularly receive really positive comments from our clients about Paynes’ turf,” he concluded.
