When a job involves saving lives, property, and the environment on a daily basis, it’s important that staff are based in a setting that is as calm and restorative as possible. This is part of the reason why the surrounding landscape of the Essex Fire and Rescue Services’ headquarters in Kelvedon, Essex, recently underwent a major renovation, as the finishing touch to a new modern building extension. With the help of Paynes Turf and CR Swift Landscaping Ltd, the site has been transformed from a barren building site to an impressive area of beauty and functionality.
BALI award-winning landscapers, CR Swift Landscaping Ltd, was contracted to carry out the landscaping project through Farran Construction, and given just a short window in which to complete the project. To help them meet the tight deadline reliably, the landscapers turned to Essex-based Paynes Turf to grow, supply, and deliver 380sqm of Premium Grade Turf to the site.
“We chose Paynes Turf because it’s a highly regarded company with an excellent reputation for supplying top quality products at really reasonable prices,” explained Simon Thomson, contracts manager at CR Swift Landscaping Ltd.
In order to lay high quality turf quickly and efficiently, CR Swift selected Paynes’ big roll turf. Covering a surface area of 20sqm, each roll of Paynes’ big roll turf can be laid much faster than conventional sized rolls, and also has fewer joints, which allows the turf to stay manageable for longer (especially in the heat of the summer) – a real plus for landscapers working on large scale projects.
“We’ve worked with Paynes Turf on previous projects, also using their Premium Grade Turf supplied in big roll, and we’d definitely use them again. Paynes’ customer service is fantastic – they’re quick to respond and keep in touch to let you know what’s going on. We can’t knock their delivery service – they’ve got lots of lorries and they’re always on call to help out,” Mr. Thomson explained.
Thanks to the big roll turf, Paynes’ fast and reliable delivery service, and CR Swift’s excellent work, the entire project was completed in July 2014 in just two weeks – including the installation of native plants, hedgerows, and herbaceous borders around the entrance to the new building.
“We continue to be really impressed with the quality of Paynes’ turf, which meets our high standards and of those demanded by our clients. Testament to this is that we’ve never had any reports of problems or complaints about the turf from our clients – they’re always delighted with Paynes’ turf. We’d definitely recommend Paynes Turf to other landscapers,” Mr. Thomson concluded.
